Modern man and woman craves instant gratification.
Fuck that, we demand it.
We can’t even wait 5 seconds for space to send an invisible signal from god knows where to a miniature computer that fits into the back pocket of our skinny jeans just so we can see what Tammy was up to on Long Island last weekend. In an age where information and entertainment are literally available at our fingertips we’ve grow to expect those types of results in all aspects of our lives.
Namely and most detrimentally in our careers and in our health.
It’s why we get discouraged when we don’t grow 6 pac abs after a month of going to the gym twice a week. It’s why we don’t get promotions after 3 months of showing up on time and doing our jobs. It’s why we don’t start businesses that become profitable over night. Former Shawshank inmate Andy Dufrane would say success is a lot like geology:
“It requires pressure and time.”
Work. Work some more. Keep working with the belief that you will never be able to stop. In order to do anything important you must make a deal with the universe: dedicate a part of yourself for as long as you live towards your own happiness, however you define it. In return, the universe will reward you with the journey, and the strength to pursue your life’s purpose.
It sounds hokey and it sounds like bullshit but trust me when I tell you there are forces at work out there. Forces that take notice when you are doing things the right way. But it takes time. There are no easy paths and there are no free lunches.
Start with passion, and let it burn, baby.
